Last Chance U | Netflix

Last Chance U is a Netflix sports documentary that showcases the trials and tribulations of Junior College Athletes trying to get drafted into a Division 1 or 2 school, and some even the NFL. The show also focuses on the athlete’s coaches and teachers who try their very best to guide them down the right path. For many players, Junior College is their last step from either a high school student who wasn’t offered a scholarship to a Division 1 or 2 school or a fall from grace from athletes who either got injured or struggled in their big colleges. 

Throughout the series, viewers are taken through the ups and downs of the athletes’ journeys, and the joys and frustrations of the coaches that accompany them, all depending on how the team is doing during a given season.

The show dives deeper into the realities of some of these athletes. Some star players, like Dior, have had rough childhoods, which follows them into their football careers. This past season truly tugged at viewers’ heartstrings as they watch the star quarterback struggle to buy food and live in his car. Another notable figure has been Coach Jason Brown. His aggressive and tough style of coaching pushes his athletes to their full potential and ultimately changes their lives for the better. Throughout the series, viewers see all the sacrifices the players and coaches have made, and what it takes for these athletes to make it to the next level. 

This upcoming season will focus on Basketball and will definitely offer a different perspective on what it takes to make it in a sport that differs so vastly from football. Though the rules of the sport are different, this upcoming season will still bring all the same drama and emotion to the table.

Last Chance U has been at the forefront these past couple of years with their revealing storytelling of the players, coaches and families involved. It's definitely helped showcase the talents of student-athletes to get them to the next level. Last Chance U has also paved the way for other Netflix sports documentaries like The Last Dance and even on other networks with CBC’s Anyone’s Game showcasing grassroots high school basketball players. There’s something special with Last Chance U and that's why it's continued to be the leader in sports documentaries. Hopefully, this up-coming basketball season will feature great talents as well as the drama that's behind the scenes in most sports.
